What Do You Think!

We have been sorting our items for our school production Rumpelstiltskin. Today Mrs Brooks came and painted some faces to show us what we would look like on the stage. Can you tell who is a star, a 
 sheep, a lamb and a blackbird?

Penguins at Chelsea

These penguins dressed up again for assembly on Friday.

 The Porritt Ave Walking School Bus won the North Shore's region competition for best dressed penguins. Each WSB was encouraged to dress up and "waddle to school" to celebrate the release of a new movie "Mr Popper's Penguins." 

We had a special school assembly on Friday and the winners were handed their prizes of movie passes, stationery sets and penguin stickers. Well done to everyone who dressed up, you all looked fabulous!

Getting Ready For Our Production

We have only 2 more weeks to get ready for our big Rumpelstiltskin production. The Bachelors’ item is at the beginning of Scene 2. We have 6 different groups practising dances to Nursery Rhymes. Mrs Harsant has made up the dances. We are mice, lambs, stars or blackbirds. Can you guess what the Nursery Rhymes are? We are also practising something different for one other rhyme.

In the afternoons with Miss Bonner we have been studying how we prepare for a show. We have learnt about parts of the stage and yesterday we interviewed Mrs Cross about painting the big backdrops for the stage. Mrs Le Sueur and Mrs Needham are busy making costumes for everyone.

Interchange Is Fun!

One afternoon a week we do Interchange. We go to Miss Bonner and learn ball skills. Then we go to Mrs Harsant and find out how our bodies work and how to keep ourselves healthy. Our 3^rd session for the afternoon is with Mrs Le Sueur where we learn te reo and tikanga. Today we learnt ti rakau or Maori stick games.

We used tennis balls today.

We watched a DVD about caring for our teeth.

On our other afternoons we are doing an in depth study of Rumplestiltskin and how it becomes our big school production. This helps us to answer this term’s research question – “What would life be like in Rumpelstiltskin’s time?”

It was easy using the ti rakau sticks!

Cricket Skills with Franklin

Franklin was very tall and he's a good bowler!

Franklin is an international cricket player from the West Indies. He came on Wednesday and taught us some cricket skills. We think we were pretty good. He will coach the Birkenhead Cricket Club teams.

Oranges and Fractions

Welcome back after the holidays. We are already working hard. Miss Bonner brought in some oranges so we could do some practical maths by cutting oranges into halves and quarters and thirds.

Find the 1/2's, 1/4's and 1/3's.



Then we got to eat them. Yum!

Holiday Activity - Look after our birds this winter.

Join the Sumdog Team

Sumdog is a website which has a programme of maths games that are free to play at home and at school. They cover 100 numeracy topics, split into 10 levels designed to develop numeracy skills and so are an excellent way to practise, reinforce and apply the Basic Facts. Teachers can monitor progress and design challenges.

Sebastian Visits Us Again

Every month Sebastian Nicholas comes to visit us. We are keeping track of the changes that happen to him as he grows. 

He is now 11 weeks old and we noticed that on this visit he was much more interested in looking at all of us while we talked and asked questions.

Mrs Nicholas said that he has started 

rolling over and we saw him smiling

at Mrs Harsant.

He has got more hair and is 65 cms long now. He certainly has changed alot since he first came to visit when he was only 3 weeks old.

Wow! Look at our new T.V.

The Bachelors have 2 new TVs to use in the classroom. There’s one in Sp 10 and another in Sp 9. We hope Miss Bonner will be getting one soon.

Once the TV is hooked up to Mrs LeSueur’s laptop we can do all sorts of things.

We are all excited to be using our new T.V.
