 We started with a whole school parade and marched around Court 1 and 2.

AT 3 o'clock we headed down to the hall where the PTA had decorated the hall and had lots of exciting activities for us to do. Look at these photos.

Solar Power - The Power of the sun!

Can you see all the solar panels on the top of this car? Can you guess what makes this car go? It's not power from petrol that makes the motor go!

These holidays I am off to Darwin in Australia to watch the start of the World Solar Car Challenge. It’s a 4 day car race starting on 16 October from the top of Australia to the bottom. The cars are only allowed to run on batteries charged with power from the sun. Have a look at the cool cars that are racing. My son is one of the electrical engineers in the team. Watch Our Shadow Puppet Shows

Space 10 English group have been producing shadow puppet plays based on a Fairy Tale. Each group had to plan and write a script, make puppet characters and props and practise together. They did amazingly well and have been busy presenting their shadow plays to other classes in the school. This has all been done in just over a week! You are all stars this week! The other teachers were amazed at your presentations.Well done!

How does a torch work?

George and Daniel worked well together.

Max and Brooke worked it out first.

Anders and David made a switch for theirs.

Kate and Krissy worked it out too!

Today we investigated how a torch works. We needed a battery, a light bulb, 2 bits of wire, a battery holder and a bulb holder. We had to connect all these things to make a circuit for the power to move along to make the bulb light up. Some of us discovered how to do it all by ourselves. It was a fun science activity.

Making Shadows

Our shadows had changed position.

Our shadows were long and skinny.

Now that Rumpelstiltskin is over we have started a new study. We are investigating light and shadows. Shadows need a light source and the sun is Earth’s biggest light source. We got a friend to draw around our shadows on Thursday afternoon. Then this morning we went outside to see where our shadow would be. It had changed position and was a lot longer. 

We made funny shaped shadows.

We made shadows with torches.

We also used torches to investigate the changes to shadows when you move the light source. We enjoy doing science investigations. When we do fitness it’s fun to watch our shadow running along with us.

Wow! Look at this cake!

  









Hunter's mum thought we had all done such a wonderful job of our school production. So she made this huge chocolate cake covered with lots of the characters from Rumpelstiltskin, all made out of icing. Hunter said these were all handmade and that everything was edible, except for Puss'n'Boots’ feather. 

 
There was enough cake for all the children in the whole school to have 2 pieces each. At assembly today there was a lucky draw and names were pulled out and winners could choose an icing character to take home. Thank you very much, Hunter’s mum, for making this special treat for us.

Show week is finally here! We are all so excited and love our parts and being on stage. Read some of our highlights.



Baa Baa Black Sheep





“I liked being a mouse because we got to wear glasses,” said Charlotte.

“I liked it when I was following Michael down the ramp,” said Andy.

Sing a Song of Sixpence blackbirds



“I enjoyed doing the Macarena because it’s fun to join in,” said Brooke and Stella.

“I liked it when Rumpelstiltskin was singing ‘Rumpelstiltskin, what a name’ while the Prince was hiding behind a tree,” said Hunter.



Hey Diddle Diddle ti rakau group



“I liked having face paint on,” said Tom B.

“I liked it when the Prince was singing,” said Kate.



Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars



“I liked my part because it was fun to do,” said Elise.

“I liked the Gold Digger dance because my sister’s in it,” said George.



Three Blind Mice without their glasses



“I liked being a blackbird and wearing the capes,” said Iban.

“I liked the King best because he was funny,” said David E.

Next week is our big production week – 4 performances! We have one more practice on Friday! The last of our costumes are nearly finished. We have been very busy threading straws for the Hey Diddle Diddle 

ti rakau group. Mrs Le Sueur will sew them into piupius for us to wear. 

Mrs Harsant has been very busy making props for the show. Miss Bonner asked some of the main cast to come and talk to us about their parts. Harlen is the King, Jeanie is Alphonso and Sophie is the Miller's daughter. They sang us their songs and acted some of their scenes. We think they are very clever acting in front of a big audience.

                                                        

Rumpelstiltskin

Rumpelstiltskin is one of the main actors in our production. She came and talked to us about her part in the show. She is really Tom's big sister, Caitlin. Caitlin has had to learn lots of lines off by heart. She has had to become very good at acting and talking like Rumpelstiltskin. We think she is very clever playing this part.

Today we went to look at the costume room. This is really Space 12 and it has been turned into a sewing room. All the costumes are made here. There are lots of clever mums who come and make the costumes for us. Next week we are all having turns at wearing our costumes at one of the practices.
